Have you heard the latest SEO news? Google is rolling out a ranking change, starting April 21, 2015, that will penalize websites that are not mobile-friendly.
For the last couple of weeks I have been receiving emails calling it Mobilegeddon and using scary language to frighten business owners into thinking that if they don’t update their website NOW that they will be dropped from Google.
The truth is, if your site isn’t mobile-friendly then it will not rank as highly in Google’s mobile or smartphone search results. It should not be dropped from those results and it will likely be fine for users searching on a computer. That being said, it is in your best interest to take care of it as mobile internet usage is going to keep growing. You want to ensure that your business will be found wherever your customer wants to search for it. But don’t panic.
Check your site in Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test. If it is mobile-friendly then you are all set. If not, call your favourite web designer and find out what it would take to make it mobile-friendly. Most of us have done a number of mobile upgrades by now so can give you a good indication of what it will take.
